Livelihood Support Project
Supported by Qatar Charity and Implemented by RDC Nepal

The Livelihood Support Project was implemented with the generous support of Qatar Charity, with RDC Nepal serving as the local implementing partner. The project aimed to strengthen economic self-reliance and improve income security among vulnerable individuals by supporting small-scale entrepreneurship. The intervention focused on establishing sustainable livelihood opportunities through the provision of fully equipped grocery shops and business development support.

Under this project, two local entrepreneurs were supported to establish fully functional grocery shops in Yamunamai Rural Municipality (Ward-2) and Paroha Municipality (Ward-5). These locations were selected based on community needs, market potential, and the socio-economic vulnerability of the beneficiaries. Prior to the intervention, the supported entrepreneurs faced significant financial and technical constraints that prevented them from starting or expanding their businesses.

The project provided comprehensive livelihood assistance, including essential shop equipment, furniture, and initial stock, enabling the entrepreneurs to operate their grocery shops effectively from the outset. By addressing start-up capital gaps, the project reduced financial risk and increased the likelihood of business sustainability. The supported shops now provide access to essential food items and daily necessities for local communities, contributing to improved service availability and local economic activity.

In addition to material support, RDC Nepal conducted orientation sessions on business planning and financial management. These sessions were designed to strengthen the entrepreneurs’ understanding of basic business concepts such as cost analysis, pricing, record keeping, customer management, and profit planning. Practical guidance was provided to help beneficiaries develop realistic business plans aligned with local market demand and their own capacity.

Recognizing the importance of formalization for long-term sustainability, RDC Nepal also assisted the entrepreneurs in completing company registration and obtaining Permanent Account Numbers (PAN). This support enabled the businesses to operate legally, improve transparency, and access future financial services and government programs. Formal registration also enhances the credibility of the enterprises and supports compliance with national regulations.

The Livelihood Support Project reflects Qatar Charity’s commitment to promoting dignified and sustainable income opportunities for vulnerable populations. Through RDC Nepal’s localized implementation approach, the project ensured close coordination with municipal authorities, community stakeholders, and beneficiaries. This partnership contributed to effective targeting, smooth implementation, and local ownership of the intervention.

Overall, the project has strengthened household income sources, reduced economic vulnerability, and promoted self-employment in the supported communities. By combining material assistance with capacity building and legal compliance, the initiative has laid a strong foundation for sustainable micro-enterprise development. The project serves as a practical model of how strategic partnerships between international donors and local organizations can generate meaningful and lasting socio-economic impact at the grassroots level.
