Narsima Khatun, a 27-year-old woman from Chandrapur Municipality Ward-7 (Muslim Tole), lives with her husband and five children—three daughters aged 14 years, 8 years, and 3 months, and two sons aged 10 and 6 years. She is the second wife of her husband, and her co-wife also lives in the same household. Narsima was married after her husband’s first wife was unable to have children. After her marriage, Narsima gave birth to five children, and recently her co-wife is also one month pregnant. Managing such a large family has always been challenging.
Narsima is a right holder of the GARVA Project and received support to start a small chatpate business with a push-cart. She earns a small income by selling chatpate in the community, but the earnings are not enough to meet the needs of the large household.
About a month ago, her husband migrated to Malaysia for foreign employment by taking a loan, which has increased the family’s financial burden due to repayment with interest. Since then, Narsima has been solely responsible for managing the household and caring for her children. Because the income from her small business is limited, the family often faces food shortages. At times, they have to skip meals or borrow money from neighbors just to buy food, which adds more stress to their daily lives.
As a Muslim family, Ramadan is a very special and meaningful time for Narsima. It is a period of spiritual reflection, prayer, and fasting from sunrise to sunset. However, due to financial difficulties, their meals are usually very simple. Most days, the family eats basic foods such as rice, lentils, and vegetables, while meat and fruits are rarely affordable.
In this difficult situation, the Ramadan Food Pack support provided on 10 March 2026 brought great relief to Narsima and her family. The food pack included essential items such as rice, lentils, cooking oil, sugar, salt, and grams. This support helped ensure that the family had enough food to prepare Sehri and Iftar meals during Ramadan.

Narsima shared that this assistance reduced her family’s immediate financial burden and helped them manage their food needs for several weeks. She expressed that programs like this are very important for families like hers who struggle to meet their daily needs.
Narsima and her family are deeply grateful to RDC Nepal and IR Nepal for their kindness and generosity. The Ramadan Food Pack not only helped them meet their food needs but also allowed them to observe Ramadan with dignity and peace of mind.
