My Journey: From Confusion to Confidence in the Digital World

My Journey: From Confusion to Confidence in the Digital World

By Rabina Chaudhary, Youth Mentor – Sarlahi, Madhesh

I used to think of the internet as just a place to chat with friends, share photos, and scroll through posts. I never really thought about the risks that came with it. I didn’t know what to do if someone misused my photo or sent me a disturbing message. Honestly, I felt lost and unsure.

That changed when I joined the Online Safety and TFGBV Risk Management Training under the SAFE Girls Project by Good Neighbors International Nepal. It was a turning point for me.

During the training, I learned things I had never considered before how our digital footprints can be traced, how to adjust privacy settings, and how to spot misinformation. The session on online harassment really hit home. I realized how vulnerable we can be online, but also how powerful we become when we know how to protect ourselves.

What I appreciated most was how the training didn’t just teach us technical skills it helped us build resilience. We practiced how to support friends facing online threats and talked about creating safer digital spaces. I felt my confidence grow with each session.

Now, I lead small orientation sessions in my community. I talk to adolescent girls about online safety, about recognizing gender-based violence in digital spaces, and about standing up for themselves. I feel proud when I see them becoming more aware and cautious.

The internet hasn’t changed but I have. I’m no longer afraid. I’m informed, alert, and empowered. Thanks to the SAFE Girls Project, I’ve found my voice and a purpose: to help others feel safe and strong online, just like I do now.
