Sponsorship Program for Vulnerable and Marginalized Groups Implemented by RDC Nepal and Qatar Charity Nepal

Project Summary: Sponsorship Program for Vulnerable and Marginalized Groups
Implemented by RDC Nepal

RDC Nepal implemented a comprehensive sponsorship project aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable and marginalized communities. The project focused on providing targeted support to orphan children, persons with disabilities (PWDs), needy students, ultra-poor families, and community social mobilizers who face multiple barriers to accessing education, livelihoods, and basic social protection. Through inclusive and dignity-based interventions, the project sought to promote self-reliance, social inclusion, and long-term resilience among beneficiaries.

The core objective of the project was to ensure access to quality education and promote sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable population groups. Many beneficiaries came from disadvantaged backgrounds characterized by poverty, social exclusion, disability, or lack of family support. These challenges often result in school dropouts, child labor, unemployment, and intergenerational poverty. Recognizing these risks, RDC Nepal designed the sponsorship intervention to address both immediate needs and long-term development outcomes.

Under the project, 29 ultra-poor families received sponsorship support to strengthen household stability and reduce economic vulnerability. 423 orphan children were sponsored to ensure continued access to education, basic needs, and psychosocial support. This intervention played a critical role in preventing school dropout and protecting children from exploitation and neglect. In addition, 25 needy students were supported to continue their education, helping them overcome financial barriers such as school fees, learning materials, and related costs.

The project also prioritized inclusion of persons with disabilities by providing sponsorship to 26 PWDs, enabling them to access education, skills development, and livelihood opportunities with dignity. This support helped reduce dependency and enhanced their participation in family and community life. Furthermore, 8 social mobilizers were sponsored to strengthen community engagement, outreach, and coordination at the grassroots level. Their involvement ensured effective identification of vulnerable households, follow-up support, and awareness-raising within communities.

As part of project expansion and sustainability planning, 150 new application forms were filled for further selection of eligible beneficiaries. This process ensured transparency, needs-based targeting, and readiness for scaling up sponsorship coverage in future phases.

In addition to financial and material support, RDC Nepal conducted counseling programs for orphan children, focusing on motivation, emotional well-being, and encouragement for higher education. These sessions helped children build confidence, set educational goals, and develop a positive outlook toward their future.

Overall, the sponsorship project significantly contributed to improving educational access, livelihood security, and psychosocial well-being of vulnerable groups. By combining sponsorship support with counseling, community mobilization, and inclusive targeting, RDC Nepal reinforced its commitment to social justice, human dignity, and sustainable development. The project not only addressed immediate vulnerabilities but also laid a strong foundation for long-term socio-economic empowerment of marginalized communities.
